YOUTH RENEWAL PROGRAMS - THE VISION FOR THE YEAR 1983

THE VISION

The objectives of the programmes for the year 1983 are the following:

1. The steady growth and development of the youth already in the Renewal.

2. Location and development of youth leadership potential. 

3. Forming a team of youth pastors.

4. Attracting more youth into the Renewal and forming them into nature Christians.

5. Developing various ministries in the Renewal. 


ORGANISATION

To achieve the above objectives, an effective and dedicated organisation is required. Till such time, when the formal Kerala Youth Central Team (KYCT) and Zonal Youth Teams (ZYT) as planned by the KS T are formed, the present arrangement of an informal group of youth leaders from different parts of Kerala meeting regularly for prayers and discussion will continue.

Since a number of youth programmes are being planned, a well knit group of people with sufficient growth and experience will be required to assist and organise these programmes. To meet this requirement, a group of youth leaders selected from the different zones could be formed in addition to the present small group. The members of the present group were asked to suggest names of persons committed to the Renewal to be members of this group.

A joint meeting of the present group and the new group was proposed to be held on 23rd and 24th of April '83. Jose Jacob, Thomas Ravi and Joji Joseph were asked to work out the details. 

A secretariate consisting of Rani Mathew, Rina Issac, Anne Kannath and Thomas Ravi was formed to deal with correspondence and other administrative matters.

For the efficient organisation of the zonal youth activities, it was felt necessary to instruct zonal youth leaders in organisational and administrative techniques. Edward Edezhath agreed to take up this.

Documentation Centre:

A Documentation Centre collecting books, periodicals, paper cuttings, news items, slides, movies, cassettes, video tapes, statistics, charts, case studies, paintings, photographs etc. was planned to be set up. Such a centre could be useful in conducting outreach programmes to the youth of different age groups in schools, colleges etc. by providing information and other communication aids. The work of preparing a list of books and their sources was entrusted with Alicekutty. Collecting paper cuttings and news items is to be organised by Mini Kuriakose. Every member was asked to cut out interesting and relevant items and send it to either Edward or Mini. Collecting paintings, photographs, charts etc. was entrusted with Augustine C.O. Films, slides, cassettes, etc. was entrusted with V. J. Antony, Mathaichan and Rani Mathew. Collecting case studies is to be organised by K. K. Joseph.

Intercession:

Anne Karnath was asked to organise and co-ordinate intercessory prayers for the success of all the youth programmes In every zone.

PROGRAMNES. PLANNED FOR THE YEAR

1. Second Youth Leaders Conference in Malayalam:

This conference modelled on the Youth Leaders Conference conducted by Fr. Gino at Manjummel is being planned for about 100 selected youth leaders from all over Kerala during July 1983. The organisation of this Conference was entrusted with a committee consisting of V. J. Antory, K. K. Joseph, and Mini Kuriakose.

2. Bible Study Programme:

A Bible study programme on St. Luke's Gospel starting in March '83 and culminating in a camp during the Christmas holidays of 1983 is planned. A committee consisting of Rina Issac, Augustine C.O., Grace Thomas, Philip and Antony T. 0 . has been asked to work out the details and organise the programme.

3. Talent Pooling:

A programme to locate, develop and utilise artistic and technical talents like music, writing, painting, poster designing, movie making, acting etc. was planned. Mathachan was asked to organise this. A meeting of such talented persons was suggested to be held as early as possible.

4. Programme for Youth Pastors:

Considering the importance of pastoring in the spiritual development of youth, a programme for youth pastors was suggested. Mathaichan Kottukapally agreed to organise this programme. 

5. Resource persons Training Programne:

The detailed programne, dates, etc. of this programme are yet to be finalised.

6. Seminar on Social Action:

The detailed programme, dates etc. of this programme also are yet to be finalised.

7. Out-reach Programmes:

As part of the efforts for reaching out to the youth outside Renewal and leading them to a life committed to Jesus and Church, a programme for children of the age group 12 - 15 is planned in May ‘83. Special programmes for college and school students also are being planned. These programmes will attempt to present Jesus in a manner aimed to capture the interest of young people with the help of audio-visual aids, posters, pictures, etc. The place selected for the first program is Kuzhupilly. Mathachan, Sunny Mathachan, Philomina and Kochuthresia were asked to organise this.

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? (BJEP011)

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? The above address list is misleading. All the persons in the initial group are not there in this address list and a few who may have come for one or two meetings and never became part of the group are there in this list. But this is the only somewhat nearer listing I could find in my collection. In July 1982, during a leadership training at Thevara, Alicekutty and I listed some of the active and generous leaders at that time and asked each of them individually if they would like to come together regularly as a 'first line of leadership' among the many who are growing as a network in different parts of the state. All those we asked agreed—18 of them—and we started meeting. A follow-up gathering in 1977 (BJEP001)

We gathered at Loyola, Aluva in '77 - 6 priests, 5 girls and 4 young men. Of course, Fr Paul Lanthaparambil, SJ was the superior of Loyola and we gathered there for the weekend as I was staying there and doing my studies at UC College, Aluva. This was a follow up meeting of a few of us from the 1976 Charismatic youth retreat held at St Paul's College Hostel, Kalamassery.  The five-day residential Charismatic Initiation at Kalamassery was quite special. Fr Marcelino Iragui OCD the main resource person was a professor at Aluva major seminary, and his proximity was a blessing for all of us. In June '76 we already had a first seminar at St Teresa's College, Ernakulam after which Fr Marcelino had started a weekly prayer group at that College. Some of us were actively participating in it.
