Jesus Youth Journey - Milestones
1976 Charismatic Team from Bombay conducted programs in June at Calicut and Ernakulam, and CCR youth activities began. Fr. Fio Mascarenhas, Fr. Rufus Perera and Fr. Marcelino Iragui lead the Ernakulam Seminar. St Teresa’s group in Ernakulam started.
1977 Fr. Marcelino’s visits to build youth groups. Youth retreats in different parts of Kerala, mainly in Catholic Colleges. Youth retreat held at St. Paul’s Kalamassery by Fr. Marcelino.
1978 Fr. Fio Mascarenhas proposes to the newly formed Kerala Service Team (KST) of the CCR to organize a convention for youth. The First Youth Team was formed. Members – Edward Edezhath (Convener), C C Alicekutty and Fr. Justin Pinheiro. A series of gatherings were organized in different parts of Kerala, and a youth network was built. During Onam time 5 large programs at St. Albert’s School. the First Charismatic Youth Convention at SH College, Thevara (Around 800 participants).
1979 - 80 Bible camps and retreats. Many college and parish groups grow.
1981 Fr. Geno Henriques talked to KST about the need for a focus and strategy for youth. The Second Youth Team was formed – Edward Edezhath (Convener), C O Augustine, P A Philomina, C C Alicekutty and Fr. Sebastina Mundamcherry. A working plan for youth was presented to KST, and Kerala was divided into 14 zones with teams.
1982 : Youth leadership formation on Self-Awareness was first done in English by Fr. Gino and later in Malayalam. The “First Line” group formed.
1983 First Line group organizes ‘Know Yourself Program’ at different centers. The Youth Team is reconstituted as Kerala Youth Central Team (KYCT) - Edward Edezhath (Convener), Fr. Abraham Pallivathukal SJ (Pastor). First camp for children.
1984 Know Yourself programs train youth for leadership. Zonal monthly gatherings and committed groups.
1985 International Youth Year. Leaflets on proposed lifestyle in the movement. ‘Jesus Youth 85’ Conference at SH College, Thevara - Jesus Youth gets its name.
1986 Jesus Youth work in colleges streamlined - Central Campus Ministry formed, Sony Emmanuel the coordinator of the Campus Team. Second Line leadership formation begins.
1987 Second Line continue. ‘Jesus youth 87’: “Evangelisation our goal”
1988 ‘Campus Meet 88’: “Arise Shine Out”, over 1500 students participate. A new KYCT was formed, and T C Joseph is the coordinator and Fr. Abraham (Pastor).
1989 ‘Jesus Youth 89’: “Prayer & Evangelisation” - ‘Campus Meet 89’: “Our God Reigns.” Christeen 89: teenagers for Christ, around 2500 children come together. The first young professionals’ conference, ‘The Rex Band’, was formed.
1990 ‘Campus meets’: “Come and See” held in 5 different places followed by a ‘Campus Conference,’ “Fullness of Life” – ‘Parish fest 90’ 3000 youth from parishes come together – Rex Band music album “Sing to the Lord” - Jesus Youth songbook "Sing Halleluiah" first edition - Intercessors’ Conference “Sehion Meet.”

1992 ‘Jesus Youth 92’: “Build with the Lord” - First batch of 27 graduates (17 boys + 10 girls) take one-year fulltime commitment to serve the Lord in College campuses - First Outreach camp at Puthuvaipu – 2 albums by The Rex Band ‘We Declare’ and ‘Nathantekoode.’ New KJYC – Chackochan Njavally (Coordinator), Fr. Abraham (Pastor)
1993 Talent 93 - 46 weekend training programs in 9 different fields spread over seven months - The Rex Band trip outside Kerala - Second batch of full-time volunteers (35) - ‘Samaria 93’ in Thalassery focusing on Catholic Social Doctrines - ‘Snehapoorvam,’ bi-monthly private news circular by Chackochan.
1994 ‘Jesus Youth 94’: Christ Centered Lifestyle – ‘Campus conference 94’ – ‘Parish fest 94’ – JETT: Junior Evangelisers Trainers Training Program - SETT - Senior Evangelisers Trainers Training Program - ‘We Belong To Thee’ Audio cassette by The Rex Band - Third batch of full-timers. New KJYC – Chackochan coordinator, Fr. Abraham, Pastor
1995 Bible courses - Discipleship formation Programs – ‘Jesus Youth 95’ - ‘Feel’: the video Album – ‘Campus Meets’ in 4 places, 4000 participates - ‘Sing Hallelujah’ third edition with chords - ‘The Visuals’ takes the new name ‘The Living Vision’ - Fourth batch of Full-time volunteers
1996 ‘Campus Meets’: theme “Life” at 8 places - Bible correspondence course – ‘Professionals’ Conference’: “Thy Kingdom Come” (350 participants) - Sing Halleluiah 4th Edition - Fifth batch Full-time Volunteers (34) - New Malayalam music album ‘Anuranjanam’ - New KYCT formed Manoj Sunny, coordinator, Fr. Sebastian Arikat, Pastor - First Pro-life Training Program - The first book on Jesus Youth vision, ‘JesusYouth- Oru Yuvajana Vismayathinte Katha’
1997 Pro-life programs - New batch of JETT - post-SSLC programs – First Nurses Conference (800), training of sixth batch of full-time volunteers – 14 Inter Zonal Campus Meets with the theme ‘Jesus Christ’ – Rex Band visit to Goa and to Delhi ‘Youth Alive’ – Living Vision at the Mumbai Jubilee Convention - National visits for group animation – Jesus Youth on the Web (www.jesusyouth.org) – Rex Band Album “Quiet Waters” - Jesus Youth 97 ‘the family gathering’ with 2000 participants
1998 Dedication of Jesus Youth to the Holy Spirit, the four-step program, Holy Spirit Seminar for Leaders; Novena and Pentecost Celebration; Zonal Conventions; and Leaders’ Dedication Session - Sports Animation – Easter program on Doordarshan by Rex Band and Living Vision – Rex Band English music album ‘The Spirit of Holiness’ – Medical Doctors’ Conference – Nurses Training – Regular evangelisation training and part-time volunteering – National Co-ordination set up JYNT with Manoj as coordinator and Fr. Abraham, Pastor – 7th batch of volunteers and Mission Volunteers – ‘Kairos’ magazine in Malayalam with KYCT guidance – New Co-ordination Team

2000 Delegation at Jubilee World Youth Day celebrations in Rome and YAI meet in Turin. 9th batch of full-timers. All Kerala Campus Conference - Participation in the preparation of Asia 2000. Participation in the organization of Asian Youth Conference at Divine Centre. New KYCT – PlayerNet and e-mail ‘Prayer Buddies’ started. ‘Joyntet’ e-mail fellowship. has a formal coordinating set up. A Book on JY and mission “Missionariyakunna oru Yuvajana Munnettam”
2001 Rex Band live recording by Director Bhadran at Chennai. - 10th Batch of full-timers New National Team in India with CC Joseph as coordinator and Fr. George Maduk,ampuram as pastor.
2002 11th batch of full-timers. All Kerala Campus Conference – JY participate in YAI conference in Ottava – Rex Band at Toronto WYD – first Int’l JY Leaders gathering at Toronto – First JY International Team formed at Toronto. Manoj Sunny, coordinator, Fr. Abraham, pastor.
2003 Int’l Newsletter launched - ‘Tree of Life’ a pro-life short film - Rex Band live recording by Director Bhadran at Chennai. – 12th batch of full-timers in India – Angels Army launched in June – JYIT meeting in Rome meet Pp John Paul II
2004 13th batch Full-timers. From 5 constants to ‘Six Pillars.’
2005 Jesus Youth 2005 at Bangalore. New album Destination Christ by Rex Band - 14th Batch of Full-timers in India – The National Team of CCR decides to disaffiliate JY - Cultural Exchange Program in Kerala – WYD Cologne, Rex band on the main stage. JY animate session at WYD – first JY international pilgrimage to Europe – Second JYIT formed with Manoj as coordinator and Fr. Thomas Tharayil as pastor.
2006 Communion 2006, JY gathering of Priests and religious - Chalo Kashmir in April - 15th Batch of Full-timers in India – Cultural Exchange in Kerala – ‘Youth Vibes’ JY Podcast launched – First Int’l Full-timers Training in Colombo, Sri Lanka (24 from 9 countries). Love Beyond Borders conference at Bangkok.
2007 “Love Beyond Borders” Continental Conferences in the US, UK, Jerusalem and Kerala - 16th Batch of Full-timers in India – 2nd Int’l FT batch in Thailand - Cultural Exchange in Kerala – Verapoly and Nagpur Archdioceses give canonical approval.
2008 Jesus Youth given canonical approval by the CBCI - Put out into the Deep - WYD at Sydney Australia, JY Int’l Conference – New JYIT, George Devassy as coordinator and Fr. Thomas pastor – “Put Out Into the Deep” – 17th Batch of Full-timers in India – First International Trainings for Animators and Pastors trainings in Bangkok
2009 JY Community Prayer book introduced - Jesus Youth International Trainings at Bangkok (Int’l Animators, Leaders and Full-timers), JY International Assembly at Edakochi, launching the Jubilee of the movement – 18th Batch of Full-timers in India. Formation for candidates for JY Priesthood begins in June
2010 Jesus Youth Jubilee Year – 19th Batch of Full-timers in India – Jubilee Conference brings together 20 thousand in Cochin – Int’l Trainings in Thailand – ‘Lead’ training in UAE
2011 Jubilee Colloquium – 20th Batch of Full-timers in India - Int’l Trainings in Thailand – ‘Profess Messiah’ Professionals meet in Cochin - WYD in Madrid. Renewal of approval by CBCI. New JYIT, Raiju Varghese as coordinator, and Fr. Bitaju Mathew OSST, pastor
2012 Int’l Bishops’ Consultation at Dubai - JY Formation Plan launched in Rome on 11th Oct. “That Christ may be Formed in Them” –International Leaders’ Gathering at Rome – ‘JY Households’ announced - 21st Batch of Full-timers in India - Int’l Trainings in Thailand – ‘Pietro Paulo’ one and a half year long leaders’ training in Kerala.
2013 In connection with the Year of Faith, 13 Faith Conferences in India – WYD in Rio – 22nd Batch of Full-timers in India - Int’l Trainings in Thailand. Int’l Formation Team and Mission Team formed. Monthly JY Household materials begin circulation. New JY Team, CC Joseph, the coordinator, and Fr. Bitaju pastor.
2014 23rd Batch FTP in India, Int’l trainings in Thailand. JY Women Leaders gatherings begin. Begin using the image of Mary Queen of the Apostles. First Philip Course and formation training in India.
2015 Commitment Day observed on Pentecost day – Daily Prayer of Jesus Youth introduced - 24th FTP in India, Int’l trainings in Thailand – “Understanding between JY and Syro-Malabar Bishops”
2016 25th Jubilee batch FTP, Commitment/recommitment day May 15th, May 20th Canonical approval & May 22nd Thanksgiving Day at Angamaly, Angels Army discussions, WYD in Poland, Int’l trainings in Thailand – Dialogues with Angels Army leadership starting from Aug. Fire at JY offices - Ordination of JY priests Frs. Das & Ditto., Full-timers Jubilee conference in Dec. New JY International Council formed as per the new JY Statutes, CC Joseph coordinator and Fr. Cherian Nereveetil chaplain.
2017 Vatican appoints Abp. Abraham Viruthukulangara as the Ecclesiastical Advisor to the movement - Jesus Youth Int’l mission consultation in April. ‘Kairos’ in English launched. Int’l FT, Leaders, Animators Trainings in Thailand. 26th batch FTP in India. Angels Army become a separate entity.
2018 Blessing of new JY offices near Navodaya (5Mar). Abp. Abraham Viruthukulangara passes away, Bp Raphael Thattil the new Ecclesiastical Advisor - CC Joseph steps down and Shoy Thomas new coordinator – 27th FTP batch in India – Trainings in Thailand - in the context of Kerala Floods in August, ‘Nalla Ayalkaran’ initiative launched and adopts 12 affected villages in Kerala - JY International Youth Consultation (Oct 12-14) in Rome. New International Patrons for the movement: Cardinal Cleemis and Abp. Christopher Prowse. Raiju takes charge as the new Mission Director. JYKC (JY Kerala Conference18) at Pala. Malayalam book by Edward Edezhath, ‘kaattu visunna vazhikal’ published.
2019 In WYD at Panama 4 JY Music Bands (Master Plan, Acts of the Apostles, Inside Out, and Vox Christi) participate; 28th FTP batch in India – Trainings in Thailand – Senior Leaders’ Formation Crash Course in February and August. JY Int’l Assembly at Ashirbhavan, Ekm
2020 Covid-19 Pandemic from around March – JY functioning shifted to online. Talent Initiatives in Kerala starting from Feb. – Fr Thomas Pulikil 3rd JY Priest ordained in the US – 29 FTP batch in India online - 3 Int’l bodies – Vision Forum, Teams for Safeguarding & Grievance (Edward Edezhath director of both teams). Bejesh, the new Mission Director. 3 girls gather to discuss the possibility of lifelong commitment in the movement.
