Reports of Events in 1981 - 82

9th September 1981

The Charismatic Youth Working Committee was constituted at the KST/ KAB meeting convened at St. Theresas College hall.

Mr. Edward was suggested as the convener and he in turn proposed 

        1. Miss. Alicekutty

        2. Fr. Sebastian Mundancherry

        3. Mr. C. 0. Augustine and

        4. Miss. P. A. Philomina as the members whom the body approved unanimously.

The committee was asked to study the needs of the youth in Kerala and make suggestions to KST.  The report is to be submitted at the next meeting on the 23rd October. The body can function drawing from KST funds for its needs and can expect KST to do the financial help required for its programmes. It is to propose the long term and short term goals and plans for the youth in general and particularly for those in the charismetic reneval.

The first meeting of the Charismatic Youth Working Committee met soon after the KST meeting with all the members present except Miss. Philomina. Youth were defined as those studying in colleges or those range between 18 and 35 years of age.

The needs of the youth of various groups and situations are to be found out first and basing on those plans are to be suggested.

The next meeting is to take place at 5 P.M. on the 15th September. At that meeting a questionnaire for the youth is to be prepared to find out the needs from the various groups perhaps when they meet on the 20th and 21st.


15th September1981:

The Youth Working Committee met at Papali's by 6 P.M. All the members were present.

After a short prayer we started discussing the problems faced by the youth especially of those in the renewal. Rev. Father spoke of a city campaign. A need for all-round development of the personality was suggested. Dropouts attracted special attention. At some stage a special programme for such was proposed.

As a first step for bringing together the Youth in Kerala a meeting of all the youth in and around Ernakulam was planned for the 11th of October at Kannankunneth.

A pastoral team of the following members for the youth was also suggested.

 They are to come together to reflect and to conduct programmes specially for youth. They are to be invited on the 11th.

A youth committee also will be formed to give guidance to youth comprising the following menbers.

5. C. V. Mathachan.

6. Philomina

7. Marykutty

8. Kochuthresia

Some helpers like Mr. Constantine, Rev. Sr. Sergius and Mr. Abraham were also suggested to help and direct the youth.

The purpose of the programme on the 11th will be

1. To give an awareness to the youth about their potentalities and role and

2. To receive help in planning programmes for the youth

Miss. Alicekutty will speak on the vision of the renal and the role of Youth. It will be from 9 A. M. to 5 P.M. and the programme will be a s given below

9 A.M. to 1 A.M. Praise and worship

11.30 A.M. to 12.30 Holy Mass

1.30 to 2 Р.М. Songs

2.00 to 3.00: Group discussions

3.00 Coffee.

3.15 to 4.00 General session.

Circular to be sent out before the 25th of September was also prepared.


11th October 1982:

The venue has to be changed from Kannamkunnath to Vidyanikethan.   

Altogether around 175 members were present. Ministries like greeting registration, service, leadership and music functioned rather well.

One message in the beginning said that the Lord will lead step by step.

The programmes did not go ss was planned. It started with Praise and worship, then the group discussions and general session. In the afternoon Miss. Alicekutty gave a talk and the session ended with the Holy Mass.

The Elders and Leaders team was rather strong. In the evaluation the same programmes in the other regions were also suggested.

Further planning sessions were held on the 15th and 21st of October. On the 21st the report was finalized.


 24th October 1981:

Report was presented before the KST/KAB meeting at Manjummel. It was fully approved and leaders and pastors for the areas were suggested.

These people are to be intimated of their appointment and to convene one day gatherings. Leaders' meet in January was Okayed.


28th October 1981:

Letter for the area leaders for a one day programme was drafted for the 26th of December 1981. 


26th December 1981:

Leaders from all the areas met at the Basilica. The meeting was from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. While the meeting was in progress a group was interceding in another room of the same building.

Evaluation of the progrommes was made. 

Suggestions for the youth leaders were made. 

List of participants were made.

Submission and social out-reach were discussed; but was left without reaching any decision


22nd to 26th January 1982:

Youth Leaders and Pastors met et Manjummal. Fr. Geno and others were as animators. A programme planning for each region was made on the last day.

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? (BJEP011)

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? The above address list is misleading. All the persons in the initial group are not there in this address list and a few who may have come for one or two meetings and never became part of the group are there in this list. But this is the only somewhat nearer listing I could find in my collection. In July 1982, during a leadership training at Thevara, Alicekutty and I listed some of the active and generous leaders at that time and asked each of them individually if they would like to come together regularly as a 'first line of leadership' among the many who are growing as a network in different parts of the state. All those we asked agreed—18 of them—and we started meeting. A follow-up gathering in 1977 (BJEP001)

We gathered at Loyola, Aluva in '77 - 6 priests, 5 girls and 4 young men. Of course, Fr Paul Lanthaparambil, SJ was the superior of Loyola and we gathered there for the weekend as I was staying there and doing my studies at UC College, Aluva. This was a follow up meeting of a few of us from the 1976 Charismatic youth retreat held at St Paul's College Hostel, Kalamassery.  The five-day residential Charismatic Initiation at Kalamassery was quite special. Fr Marcelino Iragui OCD the main resource person was a professor at Aluva major seminary, and his proximity was a blessing for all of us. In June '76 we already had a first seminar at St Teresa's College, Ernakulam after which Fr Marcelino had started a weekly prayer group at that College. Some of us were actively participating in it.
