Our early youth fellowship and its missionary initiatives (BJEP015)

Our early youth fellowship and its missionary initiatives (By Dr. Edward Edezhath) A couple of days ago, when Jose Jacob asked about the nature of groups and ministries in the movement's early days, I thought of sharing my experience of the fellowship group I grew up in and the small mission initiatives that developed around it.  As a prayer group, we began gathering a few decades ago and journeyed forward, bearing fruit. These weekly meetings became a central part of our lives, shaping us, forging strong relationships, and challenging us to step outside and make a difference in all the areas in which we interacted. I thank God that it continues even today, as one of the key commitments in the lives of some of us. Our Fellowship Groups. 1. Prayer Group Gathering: Our prayer group met every Wednesday at St. Teresa’s College, in a classroom for about an hour and a half. These lively gatherings were joy-filled times of singing and praise, adoration, singing in the spirit, usin...

1978 Youth Convention, the First Leap Forward (BJEP013)

1978 Youth Convention and Its Preparation The Catholic Charismatic Renewal began in Kerala in 1976. In 1978, steps were taken to establish a coordination structure. In February of that year, under the initiative of Bp Jerome Fernandez of Quilon diocese, a leaders' conference was held, and a coordinating team for the state, the Kerala Service Team (KST), was formed. When all these were happening, I was in college, and I, too, had an active part in it. I became a member of the first KST.  In May of that year, Fr Fio Mascarenhas, a Jesuit priest from Mumbai who was the National Chairman of the Charismatic Renewal, wrote a letter to the KST. In his letter, Fr. Fio said that in Kerala, there is already a service team, the KST, and perhaps the first area KST should focus on is youth. He suggested that we have a convention for youth.  The next KST meeting, along with its advisory team, KAB, was held at Trichur. After much debate, the decision was taken to organize a youth convention ...

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? (BJEP011)

Who were the Initial Members of the 1982 First Line Group? The above address list is a bit misleading. All the persons in the initial group are not there in this address list, and a few who may have come for one or two meetings and never became part of the group are there in this list. But this is the only somewhat nearer listing I could find in my collection. In July 1982, during a leadership training at Thevara, Alicekutty and I listed some of the active and generous leaders at that time and asked each of them individually if they would like to come together regularly as a 'first line of leadership' among the many who are growing as a network in different parts of the state. All those we asked agreed—18 of them—and we started meeting. This list is from 1983.  Another related blog post: A-special-photograph https://edward-edezhath.blogspot.com/2022/02/a-special-photograph.html First Line Address List – 1983 1 EDWARD A. Youth Renewal Programs - The Vision for the Year 1983 (BJEP009)

YOUTH RENEWAL PROGRAMS - THE VISION FOR THE YEAR 1983 THE VISION The objectives of the programmes for the year 1983 are the following: 1. The steady growth and development of the youth already in the Renewal. 2. Location and development of youth leadership potential.  3. Forming a team of youth pastors. 4. Attracting more youth into the Renewal and forming them into nature Christians. 5. Developing various ministries in the Renewal.  ORGANISATION To achieve the above objectives, an effective and dedicated organisation is required. Till such time, when the formal Kerala Youth Central Team (KYCT) and Zonal Youth Teams (ZYT) as planned by the KS T are formed, the present arrangement of an informal group of youth leaders from different parts of Kerala meeting regularly for prayers and discussion will continue. Since a number of youth programmes are being planned, a well knit group of people with sufficient growth and experience will be required to assist and organise these program...
